The Inmarsat-Mini-M is a very small portable satellite telephone. With this equipment, you can telephone, fax, and communicate data at almost any place in the world.
Overview
Working on the spot-beam coverage of the Inmarsat-3 satellites, the Inmarsat Mini-M offers global telephone, fax, and data communications in a lightweight, compact system. With 2.4 kbit/s data transmission (or 9.6 kbit/s using compression) and digital voice, the Mini-M is an ideal choice for maritime use. Although provided with internal batteries, most maritime installations utilize external power supplies for continuous operation.
Inmarsat Mini-M can also operate with a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card, which permits crew calling with individual billing. The Inmarsat Mini-M is not accepted as part of the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) by the International Maritime Organization.
